10 Days of Learning

Hatch Valley Middle School kicked off the 2019-2020 school year with a 10-day Extended Learning Program, with an average daily attendance of 160 students. The jump start allowed students to get to know their new teachers and get a feel for what they can expect from this new year. Students worked in groups to build bridges in a science class and in another were introduced to safety gear and rules to follow when working on a lab project. Math went hands on as well with cubes to represent number placement while cards, dice, and spin the wheel were used for problem solving. The fun continued with students having the opportunity to try and recreate pottery. They were asked to write about their summer breaks and to think about what they wish they could have done. Students were able to play and participate in P.E. some of them enjoying a hardwood gym for the first time. The Program will come to an end Friday August 2, with eligible students participating on a field trip to the swimming pool and a cookout. The regular school year is set to begin on Wednesday August 14, 2019.
